A village with a lead spire
Bierton grew as a linear village along the A418 and its older houses still line the main road under a mix of clay tile, slate and later concrete tile roofs. At its centre is the Church of St James the Great, a Grade I listed, largely 14th-century church whose central tower is crowned by a small lead spire, with flat lead roofs behind its parapets. It's a good reminder of how long properly laid lead can protect a building.
Since 2020 the old parish of Bierton with Broughton has been divided and Kingsbrook, the large new neighbourhood between Bierton and Broughton, now has its own parish council. Its homes are recent, with modern interlocking tiles, dry-fix ridges and verges and plenty of flat-roofed porches and canopies.
Common roofing jobs in and around Bierton
- Leadwork around chimneys and bay windows on the older houses along the main road.
- Slipped or cracked tiles on roofs exposed to the open farmland around the village.
- Dry verge caps and ridge fixings on Kingsbrook homes after storms.
- Flat roofs on garages, extensions and porches.
- Gutters blocked by leaves from mature trees on the older plots.
Listed buildings and new-build warranties
Bierton is within Buckinghamshire Council's area. Listed properties in the village may need listed building consent for a change of roofing material, while like-for-like repairs generally don't. On newer Kingsbrook homes, check whether a defect is still covered by the builder's or NHBC warranty before paying for a repair; we're happy to give you a photographed report either way.
Leadwork in Bierton
A lead spire at the centre and lead along the old main road
The small lead spire on St James the Great and the flat lead roofs behind its parapets show what lead can do when it's laid with the right fixings, laps and falls. It's a useful benchmark for every lead job in the village, from a cottage chimney to a porch canopy.
On the older houses along the main road we mostly renew chimney flashings, lead soakers under clay tiles and bay window roofs. Where a flashing has been smeared with mastic or swapped for self-adhesive flashing tape, we take it back to sound lead chased into the brickwork and pointed in. Kingsbrook homes have newer and simpler details, yet porch canopies and flat-roofed bays still need a properly dressed abutment where they meet the wall.
Lead on a village roof should last for generations. If yours has split, lifted or been patched, we'll photograph it and tell you whether it can be redressed or needs renewing.

How far is Bierton from Mionlach?
About a mile and a half from Aylesbury, so we can usually inspect quickly and respond to emergencies fast.
Can you repair roofs on Kingsbrook new builds?
Yes. We repair ridges, dry verges, flashings and flat roofs on newer homes. If your home is still under the builder's or NHBC warranty, check with them first; we can provide photos of the defect to support your claim.
Do you work on church and listed building roofs near Bierton?
Yes. Heritage and church leadwork is one of our specialisms and we provide the specifications and photographs that conservation officers and parochial church councils need.
Is the lead on an old Bierton cottage worth saving?
Sometimes. Lead that is sound but has lifted can often be redressed and refixed. Lead that has split, thinned or been patched with sealant is better renewed. We'll photograph it and show you which yours is.
