Fascias, soffits and guttering
Complete roofline care: uPVC fascias and soffits, new or repaired guttering and the eaves detail behind them, to keep water out of your roof and away from your walls.

Quick answer
Why are my gutters overflowing?
Gutters usually overflow because they're blocked with leaves, moss or silt, they've lost their fall and sag between brackets or a downpipe is blocked. Leaking joints and cracked sections cause drips rather than overflow. Left alone, overflowing gutters soak brickwork and fascias and can cause damp inside, so they're worth fixing early.

Signs your roofline needs attention
- Water spilling over the gutter in heavy rain or dripping from the joints.
- Green streaks or damp patches on the wall below the gutter.
- Gutters sagging between brackets or pulling away from the fascia.
- Soft, rotten or flaking timber fascias and soffits.
- Birds or wasps getting into the roof space at the eaves.
- Old roofing felt at the eaves that has rotted and dropped into the gutter.
What we do
- Fascias and soffits: replacing rotten timber with uPVC, with ventilated soffits where the roof needs airflow.
- Guttering: new gutters and downpipes, re-aligning sagging runs to the correct fall, replacing brackets and resealing leaking joints.
- Clearing: gutters, downpipes and outlets cleared and flushed.
- Eaves repairs: fitting eaves felt support trays where the underlay has rotted, so water drains into the gutter instead of onto the fascia.
- Bird and pest guards at the eaves where needed.
The eaves: where roof and roofline meet
The bottom edge of a roof is where the covering, underlay, fascia and gutter all meet and it's often where problems start. On older roofs, the felt underlay at the eaves rots first because it's exposed to sunlight and weather. Water then runs behind the gutter instead of into it, soaking the fascia and wall. An eaves felt support tray fixes this without stripping the roof.
Gutter size matters too: a larger roof or an extension feeding into an existing gutter can overwhelm it. On period homes with cast iron gutters, we'll advise on repairing or replacing like-for-like, which conservation areas often expect. If roofline work reveals problems with the tiles, we'll show you and quote separately for a roof repair.
What affects the cost
The length of roofline, the number of storeys and access, whether fascias and soffits are replaced along with the guttering and whether eaves trays or other roof repairs are needed. Doing the whole roofline at once is usually better value than piecemeal repairs. Free inspection, written quote.
Roofers, not just gutter fitters
Roofline work is often sold separately from roofing, by firms who don't touch the roof itself. Because we're roofers, we check the eaves, underlay and first courses of tiles at the same time and fix the cause, not just the gutter.

Fascias, soffits & guttering: common questions
Anything else, call Damien on 07803 473995 or send us a photo on WhatsApp.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
Once a year for most houses, ideally in late autumn once the leaves are down. Houses under trees may need it twice a year. Blocked gutters are one of the most common causes of damp we see on walls and fascias.
Should I replace fascias, soffits and gutters at the same time?
Usually, yes. Gutters are fixed to the fascia, so replacing the fascia means taking the gutters down anyway. Doing it in one go shares the access cost and gives you a matching roofline.
What is an eaves felt support tray?
It's a rigid tray fitted at the bottom of the roof, under the first courses of tiles, that replaces rotted felt at the eaves. It carries water from the underlay into the gutter and stops it running down the fascia.
Why is there a damp patch on my wall under the gutter?
Usually because water is overflowing the gutter, leaking from a joint or running behind the gutter where the eaves felt has rotted. All three are straightforward to fix once the cause is found.
Do you work on cast iron gutters?
We inspect and advise on cast iron guttering on period homes, including repair or like-for-like replacement where a conservation area or listed status calls for it. We'll explain the options with your quote.
