Leadwork specialists in Buckinghamshire
Lead flashing, valleys, gutters, chimney leadwork and heritage lead roofs, bossed, welded and dressed by hand by time-served leadworkers. It's the reason Leadworx is in our name and the work other roofers call us in for.

Quick answer
What does a leadwork specialist do?
A leadwork specialist shapes, joins and fixes sheet lead to weatherproof the parts of a roof that tiles and slates can't: chimneys, valleys, abutments, bay roofs, dormers and gutters. Done to Lead Sheet Training Academy guidance, lead can last 80 to 100 years or more. Done badly, it is one of the most common causes of roof leaks.

Where lead does the work on your roof
Most roofs rely on lead at the joints, not across the slopes. These are the details we're called to most:
- Lead flashing where a roof meets a wall, a dormer or an extension.
- Lead valleys and gutters, where two slopes meet or water collects behind a parapet.
- Chimney leadwork: the apron, step flashings, soakers and back gutter that keep a stack watertight.
- Heritage and church leadwork on listed buildings, period homes and church roofs.
- Bay windows, porches, canopies and dormers, clad in lead and bossed to shape, in one piece wherever possible.
Hand-formed, not bodged
Lead is soft enough to shape by hand and heavy enough to stay where it's put, but it moves with every change in temperature. Good leadwork respects that. We cut every piece to a length it can expand in, fix it so it can slide rather than tear and lap each joint so water has nowhere to go but out.
On site that means bossing (working lead into corners and curves with hardwood tools, so there are no cuts or seams to leak), lead welding where a joint has to be solid and welted seams and wood-cored rolls on lead roofs. Every flashing is wedged into the mortar joint, pointed and finished with patination oil so it weathers evenly instead of streaking your brickwork white.
We use rolled lead sheet made to BS EN 12588 and follow the Lead Sheet Training Academy's guidance on codes, fixings and piece sizes. It's slower than squeezing sealant into a gap. It's also why our lead doesn't need doing again.
Which lead code goes where
Lead is graded by code, which tells you its thickness. Using the wrong code is one of the commonest faults we find on other people's work.
- Code 3 (1.32 mm): soakers only, tucked under tiles and covered by a flashing.
- Code 4 (1.80 mm): most step and cover flashings, chimney aprons and small details.
- Code 5 (2.24 mm): valleys, back gutters, bay roofs and anything exposed or holding water.
- Code 6 to Code 8 (2.65 to 3.55 mm): box and parapet gutters, flat lead roofs and heritage work where the building deserves the heaviest sheet.
What affects the price of leadwork
We don't publish a price list, because two jobs with the same name can be days apart in labour. The cost of leadwork depends on:
- how much lead is needed and which code;
- access and scaffolding;
- whether the base underneath (boards, timbers, mortar joints) needs renewing first;
- how much shaping is involved: a straight abutment flashing is quick, a bossed bay roof is not.

Why other roofers call us
Many roofing firms subcontract their lead or avoid it altogether. We have spent over 40 years on it and a fair share of our leadwork comes from other roofers who reach the lead and call Mionlach. We were named On The Tools Roofer of the Year 2025, hold Association of Master Roofers Specialist Contractor status and are members of the Guild of Master Craftsmen.

What our customers say
The whole experience with Damien was 5*
Such a great guy who has an amazing team with genuine passion for what they do. The results of our full re-roof and lead work speak for themselves with a constant stream of neighbours in the street acknowledging the quality of workmanship whilst they were here.
Damien’s communication was so appreciated - from the minute we met, talking us through what was needed doing, explaining our options clearly - quoting us fairly, then keeping us updated on plans, juggling really difficult weather conditions without any stress and sending great photo updates throughout the process.
Couldn’t have wished for a better experience.
Thanks Damien, Martin, Sam and the whole team for everything. Absolute legends.
Damien's work on the entire job, from start to finish, was absolutely excellent. The communication was excellent, the team was great, they arrived exactly on time and completed some quality work. I will definitely be recommending Mionlach to anyone needing roofing work.

Leadwork: common questions
Anything else, call Damien on 07803 473995 or send us a photo on WhatsApp.
How long does lead flashing last?
Correctly specified and fitted, rolled lead sheet regularly lasts 80 years or more and heavier codes over 100. Most early failures we see come from pieces cut too long, the wrong code or sealant used in place of a proper fixing, not from the lead itself.
Can you use a lead alternative instead of lead?
We can. On some modern roofs it's a reasonable choice. But alternatives don't boss into complex shapes the way lead does and don't last as long. On listed buildings and in conservation areas, like-for-like lead is usually expected. We'll tell you honestly which suits your roof.
Why is new lead leaving white stains on my brickwork?
New lead forms a white carbonate as it first weathers and rain washes it onto the walls and tiles below. Applying patination oil when the lead is fitted prevents it. We oil every piece we fit.
Do you do leadwork for other roofers and builders?
Yes. A fair share of our work comes from roofers, builders and property managers who need lead done properly, from a single chimney flashing to a full lead roof. Send Damien photos or drawings and we'll price it.
Which areas do you cover for leadwork?
We are based in Bedgrove, Aylesbury. Repairs are mostly in and around Aylesbury and the surrounding towns and for leadwork, reroofs, heritage and church work we travel across Buckinghamshire and neighbouring counties.
